What Is the Difference Between Tomytec and Tomix?
Tomytec is the larger company that Tomix is a part of, and has a long history in Japan. It started as Tomiyama, founded by Eiichiro Tomiyama in 1924. By 1963, it changed its name as the company began to diversify, which parts of the company would create which kinds of fun toys - you know them best now as Takara Tomy. Part of Tomy is Tomytec, the Japanese name for Tomy’s subsidiary that manufactures model railways. While both lines are compatible with each other, Tomix trains are more likely to be ones that you can buy more frequently, whereas Tomytec specializes in limited releases.
