Kanto Favourites Tag-Team Up in SM11A - Remix Bout!
Posted by Braysh Gaming on Jul 1, 2019
Another Pokémon TCG expansion is on the horizon, and this time all the Kanto starters have their very own Tag-Team mate! Introducing SM11A - Remix Bout!
Released July 5th and available to order from Plaza Japan now, this brand new 64+ card subset remixes Venusaur and Charizard with new teammates, as well as giving Blastoise its first Tag Team GX card! Interestingly, all these Tag Team GX cards will also contain other starter Pokémon, as we have Venusaur & Snivy GX, Charizard & Braixen GX and Blastoise & Piplup GX, all prepared for a bout of TCG combat!
Now don't for one second think that Tag Team newbies Snivy and Braixen are downgrades from the Mythical Celebi and Legendary Reshiram - far from it!
Venusaur & Snivy GX have all bases covered! Their Ability of Shining Vines allows you to switch out your opponent’s Active Pokémon whenever you attach a Grass Energy, as well as being able to hit for 160 damage with Forest Dump - and that's before we get to Solar Plant GX! This GX attack will do 50 damage to each of your opponent’s Pokémon, and if it has two additional Energy attached, it also heals all damage from all your Pokémon! Is there anything this card can't do?!
Charizard & Braixen GX brings raw fire power! Get things quickly setup with Crimson Flame Pillar GX, of which allows you to add 5 Fire Energy from your discard pile to your Pokémon in any way you like! Attach an additional Energy to leave your opponent’s Active Pokémon Burned and Confused - then attack with Shiny Flare! Shiny Flare will burn through the opposition Pokémon for a huge 180 damage, you then pick any three cards from you deck and add them to your hand! Looks like Charizard is about to get its second competitive Tag Team GX card.
Blastoise & Piplup GX will create a tidal wave of problems! The attack Splash Maker will not only deal 150 damage, but also allows you to add three Water Energy from hand to you Pokémon in any way you like - and then heal 50 damage to the Pokémon you add them to! This is the perfect setup for the mighty Bubble Launcher GX attack! Flipping the GX marker over on this attack will do 100 damage and cause Paralysis - doesn't sound like much? Well, add three further Energy to this Tag Team duo and watch this attack hit for 250 instead! An unstoppable amount of damage that's sure to wash any opposition away!
This is sure to be an exciting trio of Tag Team GX cards, and we're very much looking forward to the Full Art, Hyper Rare and Alternate Art versions - but subsets come with four new GX cards, right? Right! Well, it seems a bit of an odd choice, but Alolan Persian GX completes the line-up this time!
Let's kick of the Trainer cards with the TR cards! As always, these TR "Trainer Rare" cards are holo reprints of current Trainer cards. This time, Items Acro Bike and Escape Board, along with Supporters Lady and Welder, get the alternate art TR treatment! Not a bad selection, with many of these cards already hugely popular on the competitive scene!
How about new Items? Well, this time SM11A actually only has one new Item! It's Great Catcher. Playing Great Catcher means that discarding two cards from your hand will allow you to switch one of your opponents Benched EX or GX Pokémon with their Active Pokémon. Handy if you're out of Supporters! Great Catcher joins a line-up of well-established Items available in the set along with the new Draw Energy Special Energy card.
Without a third new Item or Energy, it looks like both Great Catcher and Draw Energy could both be found as UR "Ultra Rare" too, along with a possible mystery Stadium card as we've seen before!
Wrapping things up as always is the Supporters! We're always excited to see the latest SR "Full Art" variants, and we can't have the Kanto starters without the man who gives you your very first Pokémon! And with just two introduced, it looks like both Professor Oak's Setting and Roller Skater could both get some incredible SR artwork! In true Prof. style, Professor Oak's Setting allows you to put up to three Basic Pokémon of different types from your deck onto your Bench! Now that's the sort of research we like to see!
Are you ready to take the fight to the TCG with the brand new Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise Tag Team GX cards? Your favourite Kanto starters are all here in Remix Bout ready to change the way you play with their overpowering Grass, Fire and Water GX attacks! Maybe you want to switch things up with Great Catcher, or can't wait to take it back to Kanto again with a potential Professor Oak's Setting Full Art? SM11a is a Pokémon TCG subset with something for everyone, so don't miss out and order from Plaza Japan today!
