Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good Gundam model kit to start off with?

Like much in hobby building, start with the “rule of cool.” In other words — does a particular Gundam figure kit spark joy? Are you ready to light up your space with a build ready for LED lighting and other exciting features? Perhaps there is a simple but sleek design that is telepathically calling to you. We recommend HG to start with as they tend to be simpler, but for whatever you choose, if you are new to the expansive universe of Gundam and its many series and spinoffs, just pick something and start building up your backlog! You can do it, Amuro!

What’s the Difference between HG, RG, and other Types?

Like other Japanese hobby-building kits, Gundam model kits come in various “scales” that reflect what your miniature is in proportion to what it would be in “real life.” This is also broken down by ability level; the most popular are HG (High Grade) or MG (Master Grade) kits, which are simpler to build; RG (Real Grade) kits that offer some of the most popular models while also offering more complexity, and PG (Perfect Grade) being the most detailed of all, best suited for more experienced enthusiasts.

What tools do I need to build a Gundam model kit?

High-quality clippers are a must, and it’s highly recommended to have a few for different cuts: the first to detach the Gundam figure kit from the sprues and other clippers to refine — and for those steps, nothing is better than God Hand. High-quality files to further smooth down the nibs and table mats are also recommended for your work. But, as any experienced hobbyist will tell you, the right tool is only as good as the time you’re willing to put in!

What else can I do with my Gundam collectibles?

After building your Gundam, now’s the time to get even more creative! Consider decals, paints, or other ways to customize your Gundam to make it uniquely yours. Just as fun, think about whether you want to display your Gundam collectibles in a special case, on a shelf, or as part of an elaborate. Check out our blog for more inspiration, also!
