Leo Lionni was born in the Netherlands in 1910. After living in Italy, he immigrated to the U.S. and succeeded as an illustrator and graphic designer. He published nearly 30 picture books starting with 'Little Blue and Little Yellow' in 1959. His works 'Swimmy', 'Frederick', and 'Alexander and the Wind-up Mouse' won the prestigious Caldecott Honor in America. He won over 21 awards in 11 works across the U.S. and Germany. Lionni passed away in Tuscany, Italy, in 1999. His work, featuring a fusion of extraordinary graphics and profound philosophy, has influenced many in the art field, and he is often called 'the world's greatest picture book author'. In Japan, his work is featured in textbooks and cherished by a wide range of generations.
