Leo Lionni was born in the Netherlands in 1910. After living in Italy, he emigrated to the United States, where he achieved success as an illustrator and graphic designer. He published nearly 30 picture books, starting with 'Little Blue and Little Yellow' in 1959. He received the prestigious Caldecott Honor Award in America for three of his works: 'Swimmy', 'Frederick', and 'Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse'. In total, he recorded 21 awards across 11 works in the USA and Germany. He passed away in Tuscany, Italy in 1999. Leo Lionni, whose works fuse outstanding graphics and profound philosophy, is acclaimed as the 'world's greatest picture book author', influencing many in the art field. In Japan, his works are included in textbooks, endearing him to multiple generations.
