The E26 series debuted in 1999 as the new luxury sleeper car for the "Hokutosei" train. It gained fame as the luxurious sleeper train known as "Cassiopeia" for many years. However, with the opening of the Hokkaido Shinkansen between Shin-Aomori and Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto, regular operations ended in March 2016. Subsequently, the trains were retrofitted with wireless devices for the Shinkansen in the Seikan Tunnel and operated mainly as tour trains in Hokkaido and Tohoku regions. The service to Hokkaido was concluded in February 2017, and it is currently running as a group-exclusive train "Cassiopeia Cruise" within JR East's jurisdiction.
Introducing the E26 series passenger cars continuing their service as "Cassiopeia Cruise." These cars can be paired with various locomotives, such as the concurrently-released <3066-F EF81 95 Rainbow Paint Scheme>. By incorporating the simultaneously re-produced <11-222 LED Interior Light Clear for E26 Series 6 Cars>, more realistic and atmospheric nighttime running scenes can be recreated.
- After the regular operation of "Cassiopeia" ended, the KAHAFU E26 was modeled in its 2016 form, featuring an LCX antenna installed underneath.
- Beautifully expresses the symbol marks (SURONEFU E26/KAHAFU E26) and five-color stripes.
- Depicts subtle differences in the stainless texture (door frames, steel observation areas, etc.).
- Recreates the LCX antenna added under the KAHAFU E26-1 and uses blue upholstery for the observation room chairs, true to the actual vehicle.
- The MASHI E26 features illuminated table lights, pre-printed no-smoking signs next to the car number, and an interior with a brown-themed design.
- Uses separate parts to recreate the phone antenna at the connection section of the SURONE E26.
- Tail lights/Back sign illuminated with white LEDs.
- The SURONEFU E26/KAHAFU E26 connection section with the locomotive comes standard with Arnold couplers (includes replacement KATO knuckle couplers). The middle connection section is equipped with KATO couplers with jumper pipes in a close-coupled form.
- Includes side display stickers. It can reproduce the exclusive side display for "Cassiopeia Cruise" showing only the car number and the name "Cassiopeia."
