The Seibu Railway 5000 series, introduced in 1969 to coincide with the opening of the Seibu Chichibu Line, is a dedicated limited express train featuring reserved seating. It received the Blue Ribbon Award from the Japan Railfan Club in 1970. Fondly known as the "Red Arrow," this train operated on routes connecting Ikebukuro and Seibu-Shinjuku to Seibu-Chichibu, such as "Chichibu" and "Oku-Chichibu," as well as "Musashi," connecting Ikebukuro and Hannō. Initially composed of four cars, it expanded to a six-car configuration between 1974 and 1976, enhancing its operations. In 1993, it was succeeded by the 10000 series, leading to its retirement in 1995.
To celebrate the 55th anniversary of the Seibu Chichibu Line, the original "Red Arrow" 5000 series is being reintroduced in a new car number format. Enjoy recreating the past scenery of the Seibu Line along with the simultaneously released products like the Seibu Railway 101 series (early type) in new colors and the Seibu E851 Cement Train.
