The overnight local train "Hayatama" operated on a 502.1 km route between Nagoya and Tennoji, passing through Kansai Main Line, Kisei Main Line, and Hanwa Line. Known for its B sleeper cars, this train was designated with a nickname to be compatible with the MARUS system, a ticket reservation and issuing system from the JNR era. Initially called "Nanki" when it began operations in 1959, the name was transferred to a diesel express train, and in the 1978 revision, it was renamed "Hayatama". The train was composed of old model passenger cars from the Ryuhwa Passenger and Freight Division, models 43 and 35, and lighter 10 series passenger cars, including 10 series sleeper cars from the Shingu Operations Division. Additionally, mail and baggage cars were also connected. A distinctive feature was the upward 924 train departing from Tennoji, which included a passenger car originating from Wakayama City on the Kisei Main Line, with coupling works taking place in Wakayama.
