The E8 series began operation in March 2024 (Reiwa 6) as a new model designed for the Yamagata Shinkansen. Based on the E6 series, it was developed with the concept of "a train weaving together abundant natural landscapes and heartfelt connections." To meet diverse travel needs, enhancements include the installation of large luggage storage areas in every car and increased wheelchair spaces.
The exterior design incorporates three colors—purple (Oshidori Purple), yellow (Benibana Yellow), and white (Zao Bianco)—reflecting the traditional design of the Yamagata Shinkansen. Its distinctive feature is the "arrow-line shape," with headlights positioned on both shoulders.
Between Tokyo and Fukushima, the train operates coupled with the E5 series "Yamabiko," reaching a maximum speed of 300 km/h.
The E8 series, the new face of the Yamagata Shinkansen, is now available as an N gauge model. It can be paired with the E5 series, as well as the upcoming <10-2096 E3 Series 2000 Yamagata Shinkansen "Tsubasa" New Color Edition>, set for release in June 2025.
- The G2 set (7 cars) and the G3 set (basic/add-on set), belonging to JR East's Yamagata Shinkansen Vehicle Center, have been commercialized as products.
- The front design faithfully reproduces the "arrow-line shape," with headlights positioned on both shoulders.
- The train's body is beautifully expressed with colors inspired by motifs such as Yamagata Prefecture's prefectural bird, the "Oshidori" (Mandarin duck), and prefectural flower, the "Benibana" (safflower).
- The pantograph cover is recreated with fins attached only on the arm-mounted side of the pantograph.
- The headlights and taillights light up, with Car 11 (E811) equipped with a light-off switch.
- The headlights are designed to mimic LED lights arranged in granular patterns, while the taillights reproduce the appearance of six lights above the driver's cab.
- A slotless motor is adopted for smooth and quiet running performance.
- To accommodate coupling operations with the E5 series, traction tires are omitted, and the front coupling mechanism is installed on Car 11 (E811). This allows for the reproduction of combined operations with the E8 and E5 series, just like the real trains.
- The side destination display is printed on a black background, and destination display stickers are included.
- The basic set features a "Best Selection" package, making it easy to recommend for beginners. Both the 7-car set and the basic set come with a small rerailer.
- The contents of the basic set can be stored in the bookcase provided with the add-on set.
- Compatible with interior lighting kit Kato 11-211 (11-212) and Kato 11-213 (11-214)
