The VT18.16 is a prestigious express diesel train developed by the East German State Railways (DR) during the 1960s. It features a 900 horsepower engine (1000 horsepower for production models) at each end, offering a total output of 1,800 horsepower (2,000 horsepower for production) with a top speed of 160 km/h. Named VT18.16, combining "Verbrennungistriebwagen," meaning diesel train in German, it was later renamed BR175 following changes in naming conventions and was widely used for international train services in configurations of four to six cars. Its notable service includes the Berlin-Vienna (Austria) "Vindobona" train, which became synonymous with this model. After retirement, the trains have been preserved across Germany, with one set currently being restored by a preservation group for revival as an international train by 2025.
