The 381 Series, the only commercial pendulum-type train in JNR, saw numerous modified cars introduced to increase service frequency during the transition to JR. The 381 Series managed by Shinryo Train Depot, operating the "Shinano," includes various variations in the Green Car, KURO381, such as the high-cab 0 series, the panoramic 10 series, and the modified 50 series for ordinary passenger cars. Notably, the KURO381 0 series stands out with its single door and diaphragm at the front, playing a significant role in diverse seasonal formations based on demand.
