The special carriage is a dedicated Imperial Family vehicle primarily integrated into the E655 series Nagomi Introduced in October 2007 as a next-generation joyful train, this is coupled in the middle of the E655 series Nagomi and used as a royal train or for state guests. The E655 series composition, made up of "high-grade vehicles," features a novel design that combines sharpness and weightiness. The body color employs a majolica paint that shifts from purple to brown depending on lighting conditions, creating a refined yet elegant appearance suitable for a royal train when running with the special carriage. The E655 series is an AC/DC train capable of operating on all electrified sections, and by equipping the front car, Kuro E654, with a power-generating engine, it can also be pulled by a diesel locomotive on non-electrified sections. Additionally, while in trial operation, the special carriage has been incorporated into both the E657 and E257 series.
