The E657 series, introduced in 2011 for the Joban Line as a DC/AC limited express train, continues to be a key player and iconic express train on the Joban Line. In conjunction with the Ibaraki Destination Campaign in 2023, the E657 series received a livery reminiscent of the classic E653 series "Fresh Hitachi," captivating many railway fans along the line and beyond. Five different color schemes have been introduced, and as the third installment in KATO's lineup, the K2 train set in yellow livery is being produced.
