Scarlet, known as the "color of longing" in the Heian period, represented feelings of love. The peony, with its regal beauty befitting the "king of a hundred flowers," combines both modesty and sincerity. This fantastical Japanese world created by Fujichoko is meticulously brought to life in this figure.
The large scarlet Japanese umbrella, which is a symbol of the piece, features intricate detailing in its orderly ribs and the dazzling golden butterflies that appear to dance around it. The peonies, designed with a refined pink gradient, are carefully arranged in terms of angle and position, capturing the fleeting, beautiful moment just before they seem to spill over.
The use of gold, silver, and red bangles, emerald green eyes, and gently blushing cheeks, all contribute to her softly smiling expression, reflecting the nuances of the original illustration.
