NOTE: This model is a Z-scale train and is not an N-scale train
The Series 489 express train is based on the Series 485 express train, and is equipped with a coordinated operation system with the EF63 class electric locomotive in order to pass through the steep gradient section between Yokokawa and Karuizawa on the Shinetsu Main Line.
After the privatization of the Japanese National Railways (JNR) in 1989, it was redesigned in the Hakusan colors of oyster white, rose, light blue, and light cobalt blue.
It was operated as a limited express “Hakusan” until the Nagano Shinkansen started service in 1997.
It can be combined with T031-2 “Series 489 Limited Express Train “Hakusan” 4-Car Extension Set” (sold separately) to make a full formation.
The minimum running radius is R95, making it very compact.
