About the Aircraft
- The F-104J Starfighter, also known as "Glory," was an interceptor fighter operated by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) from 1962 to 1997.
- Originally developed in the USA beginning in 1952, the aircraft had its first flight in 1954. It started operating with the US Air Force in 1954.
- Known for its distinctive style resembling a rocket with wings, it was equipped with a General Electric J79 turbojet engine and boasted a top speed of Mach 2.
- The aircraft was adopted not only in the US but also by Germany and other NATO countries, and it was also deployed by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
- Both single-seat F-104J and dual-seat F-104DJ variants were in service, with a total of 210 units of the F-104J type reportedly deployed.
