This exquisite kit features a uniquely camouflaged German infantry tank model. The kit reproduces the modified German Panther tank disguised as the American M10 tank destroyer, as seen during the Battle of the Ardennes at the end of World War II, in a 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit.
Vehicle Overview
During the final stages of World War II, the German army launched its last offensive, the Battle of the Bulge, starting on December 16, 1944. Part of this offensive involved Operation Greif, a false flag operation. German soldiers donned American uniforms and drove captured jeeps to infiltrate and disrupt Allied forces from the rear. As part of this operation, Panther tanks were disguised to resemble the American M10 tank destroyers. The Panther G was the base model; its turret's cupola was removed and disguised panels made of steel were added around the turret and chassis. It was also painted in olive drab with white stars to mimic the American military style. Between five and ten units were modified for Operation Greif and assigned to the 150th Armored Brigade under the command of Otto Skorzeny. Although the operation did not achieve significant success, the execution was impressive enough to surprise the American forces who eventually captured them.
Model Details
The model accurately replicates the unique Panther M10 disguised tank in a 1/35 scale. The finished chassis length measures approximately 190mm. The turret, altered with disguise panels, is recreated as a single unit with side panels. The camouflage parts on the front and rear of the chassis are also faithfully recreated to match the original vehicle. The final appearance strikingly resembles the American M10. The unique staggered wheel arrangement of the Panther is meticulously reconstructed. Magic Tracks are included to enhance the realism of the tracks. The markings include the distinctive white star and the insignia of the 150th Armored Division active in the Ardennes in 1944. Additionally, the kit comes with infrared night vision devices and four German soldier figures. Complete the unique tank with infantry to vividly recreate the Battle of the Ardennes.
