Experience the powerful Metro born from the excitement of Group B in full detail.
About the Actual Car
The MG Metro 6R4 was developed and introduced by British Leyland in the World Rally Championship (WRC) that was contested with Group B machines, fully implemented from 1983. It was based on the small Rover Metro that debuted in 1980. Patrick Head, the technical director of Williams Grand Prix Engineering, a leading F1 team, is said to have been involved in its development. The Metro features a monocoque base, with the rear body equipped with a newly constructed steel tube frame, and houses a midship V8 engine. The engine is a naturally aspirated aluminum 90-degree V6 with 2991cc, and it employs a full-time 4WD drive system. Debuting at the final race of the 1985 season, it competed in the 1986 World Rally Championship, later moving on to showcase its prowess at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.
About the Model
This plastic model assembly kit recreates the MG Metro 6R4 that featured prominently in rallies between 1985 and 1986 in 1/24 scale. The kit is a full-detail reproduction, including the engine, meticulously modeling the enthusiastic mechanism of Group B machines from the body to the mid-mounted engine. The body captures the impressive style characteristic of Group B machines, including wide over-fenders, a front wing, and a rear spoiler. The rear-mounted engine is faithfully reproduced, including the V6 engine block and the full 4WD mechanism distributed forward and backward from the transmission. The cockpit is detailed with separately molded parts for rally equipment configured on the dashboard, footrests on the floor, and tools like fire extinguishers and wrenches. The markings replicate car number 15, driven by Jimmy McRae, at the RAC Rally held in the UK in November 1986. In addition to basic plastic parts, the set includes etched detail-up parts, seat belt materials, and a masking sheet for convenient window frame painting.
