About the Actual Car

Introduced in 1981 as the successor to the Opel Ascona 400 utilized in the WRC, the Opel Manta 400 was based on the Manta B. It featured a naturally aspirated 2410cc inline four-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engine, tuned by the renowned British firm Cosworth, installed at the front. The car adopted an FR layout, driving the rear wheels. The body extensively used materials like aluminum and carbon fiber to achieve a weight under 1000kg. Furthermore, the suspension was expertly tuned by the German tuner Irmscher. The Manta 400 obtained its Group B homologation in 1983 and competed in the World Rally Championship, European Championship, and various national championships until 1986.

About the Model

This 1/24 scale plastic model assembly kit recreates the Opel Manta 400 Gr.B, which saw rally success from 1983 to 1986. Manufactured by the Belgian company Belkits, known for enthusiastically developing both classic and modern rally cars, the kit provides basic plastic parts along with detail-enhancing etched parts, seatbelt materials, and masking sheets for painting window frames. The body accurately depicts the wide overfenders, rear spoiler, hood air scoop, and slits typical of Group B machines. The cockpit features separate parts to model rally-specific dashboard meters, floor footrests, and tools like fire extinguishers and wrenches. Both right-hand and left-hand drive versions can be assembled. 

The markings replicate those of car number 1, driven by Jimmy McRae, which finished 4th in the 1984 Ypres 24 Hours Rally held in Belgium from June 29 to July 1 as part of the European Rally Championship Series.
