The Volkswagen Polo R WRC, a rally car built to S2000 regulations, was introduced by Volkswagen Germany in 2013 for WRC competition. The body featured over fenders, expanded to the regulation width of 1820mm. It housed a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder engine at the front. The car debuted in the first WRC event of 2013, the Monte Carlo Rally, performing well and finishing in second place, ultimately securing its first victory in the second event, the Swedish Rally. Subsequently, it continued to excel, with driver Sébastien Ogier clinching the championship title in its debut year, along with the manufacturer's title.
