The Real Car

The Ford Escort was introduced in 1967 as a compact car developed by Ford in the UK. It featured a front-mounted inline-four engine with a rear-wheel-drive layout, using the conventional FR (front-engine, rear-wheel-drive) configuration. The rear suspension employed a rigid axle with leaf springs. The first-generation model, known as Mk.I, was produced until 1974, after which it transitioned to the Mk.II. The Escort garnered widespread popularity as a compact car due to its simple mechanical composition and also proved successful as a base vehicle in various motorsport categories. The high-performance sporty version, the RS1600, equipped with the Cosworth BDA 1600cc twin-cam engine, achieved numerous victories in rally fields from the late 1960s to the 1970s. Notably, in the 1972 RAC Rally held in the UK, Roger Clark became the first British driver to win this local rally, creating quite a stir.

About the Model

This 1/24 scale plastic model assembly kit recreates the iconic Ford Escort Mk.I, a legendary car in rally history. Manufactured by Belkits, a Belgian company known for actively developing both classic and modern rally cars, this kit specifically models the 1972 Daily Mirror RAC Rally version driven to victory by Roger Clark. Once assembled, the model measures 168mm in length, 77mm in width, and consists of 144 parts. The body, including over-fenders, is innovatively recreated, capturing the distinctive style of the era. Front and rear bumpers, as well as grills, are made with chrome-plated parts, evoking the 1970s machine's vibe. The chassis underside, including the engine's lower section and exhaust pipes, is designed with separate parts for a three-dimensional finish. The leaf spring of the rear suspension is accurately modeled. The interior is thoroughly detailed with components like the dashboard, seats, and roll bars. Seatbelts are crafted using etched and belt materials, adding a touch of realism. Markings are provided as decals from Cartograf.

Additionally, the kit includes etched parts like brake discs and flexible plastic parts for mud flaps. Enjoy this classic vehicle with Belkits.
