About the Actual Car

The Ford Escort was introduced in 1967 as a compact, popular car developed by Ford in the UK. It featured a longitudinally mounted 4-cylinder engine at the front and a rear-wheel-drive configuration, a common FR layout. The rear suspension used a rigid axle with leaf springs. The first generation model, known as the Mk.I, was produced until 1974 before being succeeded by the Mk.II. As a beloved compact car, the Escort's simple mechanical design made it an excellent base vehicle for various categories of motorsports. An added high-performance sporty model, the RS1600, equipped with the Cosworth BDA1600cc twin-cam, achieved numerous victories in the rally fields from the late 1960s to the 1970s. Notably, it triumphed at the UK RAC Rally with Timo Mäkinen achieving three consecutive victories from 1973 to 1975, etching its name in motorsport history as an iconic car.
