About the Aircraft:
In August 2017, the 304th Squadron of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force marked its 40th anniversary. Founded in 1977 at Tsuiki Base in Fukuoka Prefecture, the squadron initially operated the F-4EJ Phantom, focusing on defending the Kyushu airspace. In 1990, the unit transitioned to the F-15J Eagle. Since 2016, it has been part of the 9th Air Wing at Naha Base, overseeing the airspace of the Southwestern Islands.
The F-15J Eagle is derived from the U.S. Air Force's F-15C, first deployed in 1974, and features systems modified for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, including the J/TEWS electronic warfare system and a custom data link system. Deployment commenced in 1982, with the F-15J playing a vital role in Japan's air defense.
To commemorate its 40th anniversary, the 304th Squadron, stationed at Naha Base, unveiled a specially painted aircraft featuring the squadron's emblem, the Tengu. This unique paint scheme was showcased in a flight demonstration at an air show in December 2017, capturing the attention of onlookers.
About the Model:
This plastic model assembly kit replicates the commemorative paint scheme of the 304th Squadron's F-15J Eagle, celebrating its 40th anniversary in August 2017. Based on the well-received 1/72 scale Japan Air Self-Defense Force F-15J Eagle by Platz, it precisely represents aircraft "42-8947" displayed at the December 2017 air show.
The kit comes with large decals for specific markings, including the Tengu motif on the rear fuselage and right vertical tail, and the blue F-15 mark on the left vertical tail, offering a stunning finish. The Tengu emblem, inspired by the mythical creature believed to reside on Mount Hiko in Fukuoka Prefecture, is an iconic symbol for Japan Air Self-Defense Force enthusiasts. It integrates seamlessly with the meticulously reproduced aircraft shape.
This detailed 1/72 scale model captures unique features like separately molded engine nozzles and includes markings for the 610-gallon tanks, perfect for collectors and fans of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
