Seires E233-0 series was introduced in 2005 to replace the 201 series on the Chuo Line. In 2019, modifications began to prepare for the introduction of Green Cars on the Chuo Line, including the addition of home detection devices, auxiliary power units, and wheelchair-accessible restrooms in car 6 adjacent to the Green Cars.
With the start of Green Car services in March 2025, two double-decker Green Cars will begin coupling with the existing 10-car trains around October 2024, transitioning to 12-car formations that will gradually enter service. Due to the increased length of the train set to 12 cars, routes have been adjusted to the Chuo Line from Tokyo to Otsuki and the Omeline from Tachikawa to Ome only.
The H configuration, capable of division and coupling, serves routes extending beyond Otsuki Station, with 4-car formations entering the Fuji Kyuko Line. Additionally, the separated 8-car formations operate as shuttle trains between Otsuki and Takao.
