Series E233-0 was introduced in 2005 to replace the 201 series on the Chuo Line. In preparation for the introduction of Green Cars on the Chuo Line, modifications for Green Car compatibility began in 2019. This included the installation of home detection devices and additional power supply units, as well as wheelchair-accessible toilets in Car 6 adjacent to the Green Cars.
With the start of Green Car services in March 2025, the attachment of two double-decker Green Cars to the existing 10-car trains began around October 2024, expanding them to 12-car formations, which have commenced operation in stages. The extended 12-car formations have led to a revised operation section limited to the Chuo Line between Tokyo and Otsuki, and the Ome Line between Tachikawa and Ome.
The H formations, capable of splitting and combining, are also used for operations continuing beyond Otsuki Station. Additionally, 4-car sets run on the Fujikyu Railway Line, while the separated 8-car sets from Otsuki Station operate as local trains between Otsuki and Takao.
- By combining with the basic set, it's possible to recreate the 12-car T formation with through-operation capability.
- The SAHAE233-500 model replicates the newly installed toilet design.
- Comes with toilet tanks for use with TN couplers for SAHA and Salo cars.
- Recreates the 27-bead pattern type on the ordinary car's roof.
