The Series 227 500 series is a new model developed for the Okayama and Bingo areas and began operation in July 2023 as a DC train by JR West Japan. It primarily serves the San'yo Main Line, Hakubi Line, Uno Line, and Honshi-Bisan Line.
While it follows the form of the Series 227 0 series active in the Hiroshima area, it features different detailed specifications such as seat arrangements. Initially, a 2-car configuration was introduced with 13 configurations, and now a 3-car configuration is being extended with 25 configurations planned for introduction.
- Renewal of the front shape based on Series 225 A Seat, Series 521, and Series 323.
- Adoption of a new current collection system, silver-colored wheels.
- The front display unit is exchangeable, with pre-printed parts attached, and comes with replacement parts.
- The fall prevention hood of the lead car is provided as a separate part, with two types included for leading and coupling situations.
- JR marks and various logo marks are pre-printed.
- The body side without platform status confirmation cameras is reproduced.
- The distinctive lightning arrester is newly manufactured for reproduction.
- Head and tail lights are white LED, and fog lights feature an orange illumination via a color prism.
- Head and tail lights, and front display unit come equipped with a constant lighting circuit board and ON-OFF switch.
- The driving cab side of the lead car is equipped with TN coupler (SP).
- Car numbers are selectable with the option for transfer sheets (basic set included).
