The 227 series 500 subseries is a new model developed by JR West Japan for the Okayama and Bingo areas, and it began operations in July 2023. It is a DC electric train primarily operating on the Sanyo Main Line, Hakubi Line, Uno Line, and Honshi-Bisan Line.
This model follows the design of the 227 series 0 subseries active in the Hiroshima area but features different detailed specifications such as seat arrangements. Initially introduced with a 2-car configuration consisting of 13 sets, a 3-car configuration consisting of 25 sets is currently being added.
- The front design is renewed, similar to the 225 series A-seat, 521 series, and 323 series
- The front display section includes pre-printed, interchangeable parts with spare parts included
- The anti-fall hood for the leading car comes as a separate part with two types included: for when leading and when coupling
- JR marks and various logo marks are pre-printed
- The side of the car body replicates a type without platform monitoring cameras
- The distinctive lightning arrester is newly manufactured and replicated
- Head and tail lights use white LEDs, and fog lights feature color prisms to replicate orange lighting
- Head and tail lights, and front display section are equipped with a constant lighting circuit board with an ON-OFF switch
- Leading car driving side is equipped with TN coupler (SP)
- Car numbers are selectable with a transfer sheet included
- Power with flywheel included
- New electrical collection system with silver wheels
- Equipped with M-13 motor
