The 485 series is a vehicle manufactured from 1968 as a limited express train for both AC and DC, and was operated on major electrified lines all over the country except Shikoku.
The "Raicho" that connects Kansai and Hokuriku has used the 485 series for many years, but with the introduction of the successor 681/683 series, it withdrew from the "Raicho" in 2011.
