The 400 Series Shinkansen is a vehicle for the Yamagata Shinkansen that appeared in 1992.
When it first appeared, it was a 6-car train, but after that it was increased by 1 car to a 7-car train.
It was changed to a new paint from around 1999, and all the old paint from the time of its appearance was changed around 2001.
All cars were retired in 2008 due to the expansion of the successor E3 series.
