Series 183 is a vehicle that appeared in 1981 as a replacement for the aging Kiha 82 series limited express diesel in Hokkaido. (Prototype car appeared in 1979)
This is the first 0th generation vehicle in the Kiha 183 series with a unique non-penetrating slant nose front.
