Sangi Railway is a railway company in Mie Prefecture operating two rail lines, Sangi Line and Hokusei Line, along with a bus service. Among the rail lines, Sangi Line was established primarily for transporting limestone and cement from Mount Fujiwara in the northern Suzuka Mountain Range and began operations in 1931. Since 2006, it remains the only private railway line in Japan conducting cement transport by freight cars.
Passenger transport on the Sangi Line has also been vital since its inception, providing essential travel means for residents along the line. Since the opening of the Kintetsu link line in 1970, convenience has improved significantly, serving a broad range of customers such as commuters, tourists, and holidaymakers.
The Sangi Railway ED5081 model originally served as the TOBU Railway ED5080 model, active until the cessation of freight train operations on the main line. Subsequently, two units, ED5081 and ED5082, were transferred to Sangi Railway, where since June 2015, they have mainly operated as freight train traction between Tomida and Higashi-Fujiwara.
- Train can be motorized to an N scale train and is compatible with TM-ED01 Motorized Chassis, TT-05 Trailer Conversion Kit and Tomix 0238 Pantograph.
