The Yo8000 series is a caboose introduced in 1974 to replace the previously used cabooses and covered brake vans. Its distinguishing feature is its design based on the cabin of the KOKI Fu 50000 series.
Even after cabooses were removed from freight trains at the end of the Japan National Railways era, a small number are still used for oversized freight trains today.
