The KOMU 1 series is a converted vehicle from the TOM 50000 series introduced in 1968 for container transport on branch lines within Hokkaido. It was retired by 1977.
The R900 type container was a prototype Japanese National Railways refrigerated container developed in 1970 for replacing refrigerated cars. It was not mass-produced, and subsequent stock transitioned to privately-owned containers.
