The KIHA40 model 2134 underwent a transformation in September 2016, adopting a "Nostalgia" paint scheme reflecting the general colors of the JNR era. During an inspection in 2019, the vehicle's bogies were changed to gray, and jumper socket mounts were added to the front, resulting in altered exterior features.
