Description

- Commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Kursk with artwork by Shin Ueda

About the Real Vehicle:
The German heavy tank destroyer from World War II, known as the Ferdinand (Elefant), boasted formidable firepower with a long-barreled 71-caliber 8.8cm gun and armor up to 200mm thick. Developed by Dr. Porsche for use with the Tiger tank, its body was initially rejected in a competitive prototype test with Henschel. Later, it was fitted with a fixed combat room and equipped with the PaK43/2 71-caliber 8.8cm gun. It featured a unique driving system with an engine-generator motor drive. From March to May 1943, 90 units were produced using bodies prepared during the prototype competition. These were deployed with great effect in the Battle of Kursk against the Soviet Union in July. Additionally, they saw action on the Italian front and in the defense of Berlin until the war's end.

About the Model:
This 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit accurately recreates the German heavy tank destroyer Ferdinand from World War II. Commemorating 80 years since its debut at Kursk, this model captures its powerful appearance with an illustration by the well-known military modeler Shin Ueda. The model includes a large fixed combat room and the long barrel of an 8.8cm gun, producing an overall body length of over 23cm. The gun barrel is made with aluminum parts. The unique shapes of the lower body and combat room are faithfully represented with single-piece parts. The suspension unit reflects the distinctive Porsche style. The tracks employ realistic assembly-type magic tracks for a striking effect. Etched parts are provided for the tread pattern on the fender parts and various other details to enhance the model. Markings include vehicles from the 653rd and 654th Heavy Panzerjäger Battalions at the Battle of Kursk in 1943. High-quality decals are supplied by Cartograf from Italy.
